Edinburgh church raises £4460 for Hearts & Minds Clowndoctor Programme

We are pleased to share the news that the congregation & friends of St Columbia’s Church, Blackhall in Edinburgh have raised a fantastic £4460 for our Clowndoctor Programme.

They held a coffee morning, a very successful Christmas Fair – attended by Dr Fizz & Dr Crumble, and allocated some of the church collections, to raise money to help fund our training programme for Clowndoctors. Members of the Watch Committee along with Rev Benjamin J A Abeledo presented the cheque to Pip Quinn, Hearts & Minds Fundraising Officer, and to Dr Fizz & Dr Crumble.

Hearts & Minds hold regular specially devised training sessions for their team of arts practitioners so they can keep up with the latest developments at the many hospitals, hospices, respite care units and special education schools that they visit throughout the year. The practitioners work closely with healthcare staff, play specialists and teachers to find out what each child needs from a visit before they go out on the wards or into the classrooms.

It is this special training, devised by Hearts & Minds, that makes the Clowndoctors so successful in easing children’s anxieties about operations and treatments and also helps communication and movement within the classroom.
