Magdalena Schamberger, Artistic Director of Hearts & Minds and creator of Artful Minds – a unique dementia training course for artists, has explained the thought and process behind creating Curious Shoes in a new film launched today.
Curious Shoes is a bespoke joyous performance created for people living with dementia and their loved ones and carers. It was first performed in March 2017 at The Studio, part of the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh and was included in their successful Forget Me Not Programme of events for people with dementia.
The audience numbers were purposefully kept to small intimate numbers so that direct engagement was possible between the performers and the audience as the story unfolded using movement, live music and very few words.
Curious Shoes will be touring three venues in Scotland in Autumn 2017 – Platform, Glasgow; The Barn, Banchory and Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock.
This performance was supported by funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
We hope you enjoy watching the film and please share with friends and colleagues.
