We are delighted to introduce you to Michelle Armstrong, new General Manager for Hearts & Minds. Michelle joins us in March and is excited to be part of the team. She is looking forward to helping develop the organisation and the work of the Clowndoctors and Elderflowers.
We thought you might like to find out a bit more about Michelle so we asked her a few, not too revealing questions on your behalf.
What interested/attracted you to work at Hearts & Minds?
Hearts and Minds is a wonderful charity that does such amazing work through positively transforming health care environments. I think the idea of improving lives one smile at a time is such a great sentiment. The Clowndoctors and Elderflowers are able to improve the emotional health and well being of the people that they engage with; providing a positive impact in relation to their quality of life.
Tell us a bit about what you did before joining Hearts & Minds.
I used to work for Cancer Research UK as a Fundraising Manager. It was great fun and an extremely varied job, some of my fondest memories were running round a shopping centre in Stirling dressed in a pink Gorilla suit and also cake decorating with vikings on a sports field at 3am in Lerwick. People do some crazy and amazing things to raise money.
What are you looking forward to most in your new post?
I can’t wait to get the chance to go and be a fly on the wall and watch the practitioners in the units. I think what they do is amazing and I have a great deal of respect for their work.
What do you like to do in your downtime away from work?
I love gardening, although that’s not so say I’m a proficient gardener. It may well be that my garden is full of some of the best kept weeds in Edinburgh.
Would you like to be a Clowndoctor or an Elderflower and what would your name be?
I think I’d like to be a Clowndoctor and I’d like to be called Dr Poppodum as I love curry. I’d eat curry for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could get away with it.
