The Clowndoctors make children laugh.
Laughter physically relaxes us and reduces stress. Research has shown that humour helps us to cope with pain, stress and adversity. Read this story from a recent visit by the Clowndoctors...
"An 8yr old girl had recently been involved in a life-changing car accident and lost the movement in her lower body. When the Clowndoctor’s were referred to her, she was in bed, very anxious and quiet.
The Clowndoctors asked to come into her room, and she was very unsure. Dr Wallop asked if she could come in quickly and deliver a postcard with the faces of all the Clowndoctors on it, and the girl agreed. When the girl took the postcard, she looked at it and found Dr Wallop’s face and pressed it. At the same time, Dr Wallop responded as if the girl had poked her in the face. She immediately laughed, and tried it again, and got the same response – much to Dr Wallop’s confusion.
She then found Dr Doodle and poked his face. He responded in the same way and she giggled. The girl then waved the card in the air, and both Clowndoctors went flying across the corridor – by this point she was laughing heartily and unreservedly as she controlled the Clowndoctors from her bed, without having to say a word.
