Congratulations to Lorrane on her epic cycling challenge for Hearts & Minds.
Throughout February our amazing supporter Lorrane set herself a challenge to pedal 311 miles for smiles for children in hospital! She cycled the equivalent distance of Fife to Orkney! Why Fife to Orkney? Her Mum is from Fife and her Dad is from Orkney so she was celebrating them both.
Before she set off, she said she had never cycled this distance before and that it was going to be a challenge but that she had some good bike pals, family and neighbours joining her to encourage her to keep going.
Lorrane’s original target of £750 was smashed two weeks in and she raised it to £1k.
She smashed that too and by Friday 28 February she had raised over £1500 as she was joined by Dr Squash to cycle the final kilometres from the Meadows to the Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital.
Here is what Lorrane had to say about why she did the challenge and her experience:
"The February Bike Challenge for Hearts & Minds was brilliant fun! I’ve met some great people and have cycled solo on longer journeys than I have ever done before. Cycling pals chummed me on some rides and I discovered new cycle routes to try out again and add to the cycling adventure. In total I cycled 524 km (326 miles), the equivalent distance of Fife to Orkney.
Folk were so generous with donations and support which spurred me on the freezing, windy, rainy soggy, sock days! More people now know about the great work the Clowndoctors do with children in hospitals and special schools.
On the final sunny day of the challenge, Clowndoctor, Dr Squash joined us to cycle to the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh. I was buzzing -, so excited and grateful for the support from Hearts & Minds. The staff helped me promote the challenge, share stories, and organise this fantastic finale! Brilliant.
An amazing total so far of £1850 has been donated by family, friends and people I’ve never met and are keen to support the charity.
I feel so happy to have been able to do something to help raise money for the charity. I am inspired by the folk who have kindly donated, shared cycling adventures and cheered me on to complete the challenge.
Get on your bike this year and check out the fantastic work of Hearts & Minds and spread the word. “
All money raised by Lorrane will go straight to the Clowndoctor Programme and ensure that children continue to have a special visit from the Clowndoctors. What better motivation is needed.
Lorrane’s page is still open if you would like to make a donation. She would be very happy.
